Getting started with the NHS App

The NHS App provides a simple and secure way for you to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.

Download the NHS app to a compatible iOS or Android device to get started.

To access your NHS services, you’ll need to set up an NHS login if you don't already have one.

You can also access your NHS services using the NHS website.

NHS App features

NHS App features may vary between GP Practices. If you are GP at Hand patient, in addition to the services you can access via the eMed App you can also:

*You may require detailed coded access to your GP health records to access these features.

Accessing your GP health record

You can use the NHS App or log in through the NHS website to access your GP health record. This is a record of your personal health information. It may include details about your health conditions and treatments you've had.

You can view your summary care record by logging in to the NHS App or the NHS website and selecting GP health record from the homepage. You can also find it in Your health.

You will be asked to prove who you are and to provide a linkage key, ODS code and Account ID.

If you registered with GP at Hand recently you should have been sent these details in your confirmation email. If you haven’t got your linkage key (also known as passphrase), ODS code and Account ID, please contact our support team and request it.

Accessing a more detailed record

If you have access to your GP health record, you will be able to see your summary record as a minimum. This contains information about your medicines and allergies.

Most people will automatically be given access to more information added to their more detailed GP record from November 2023 onwards. This includes letters, test results and appointment notes.

If you’re a GP at Hand patient and only have access to your summary record, you can request access to your detailed coded record by contacting our Support Team. We aim to process access requests within 30 days but it can take longer if we require further information from you in order to verify your request.

Viewing your test results

You can see test results carried out by your GP surgery if you have access to your detailed coded record.

In the NHS app, tap on Your Health and Test Results.

On the NHS website, log in and select GP Health Record from the homepage.
